Philadelphia Financial Scholars Applications

Philadelphia Financial Scholars provides Philadelphia high school students, their teachers and families with the tools needed to develop financial skills, build greater wealth and achieve financial empowerment.

What the program provides to partner schools:

  • In-class financial literacy curriculum for students
  • The resources to deliver an after-school club focused on entrepreneurship and business (e.g., volunteer and curriculum support)
  • The resources to deliver a weekend/evening class for the families of students enrolled in the program and others in the community where participating schools are located (e.g., volunteer and curriculum support)
  • Stipends for teachers, parent ambassadors and administrative support
  • Enhancement of current student curriculum
  • – Wharton-developed curriculum
  • – Certified STEM class
  • – Common Core-certified class (Applied Algebra)
  • – Math-based life skills class
  • – College preparation
  • – Career readiness
  • Increased parental engagement
  • Increased community engagement
  • Student field trips to sponsor’s workplaces


  • Must be a public, charter or private high school located in Philadelphia County
  • Commitment to a minimum of 3 years of Philadelphia Financial Scholars programming
  • Commitment to all three Philadelphia Financial Scholars programs (i.e., in-class financial literacy curriculum, after-school program, parent program)
  • Programs will be phased in over the 3-year period.
  • One dedicated teacher
  • Communications support for programmatic announcements
  • Participation in periodic evaluation of program’s success
  • Use of school facilities as needed
